About Gil Hernandez

Service you know.
Leadership for all of Corpus Christi.

Corpus Christi is home. Gil Hernandez has served our country, built a career in business, and spent four terms doing the work for residents at City Hall.

Commissioned as a U.S. Navy officer in 1991, Gil served in Asia and the Persian Gulf, including mine-warfare leadership at Naval Station Ingleside. He later built an eighteen-year career with Coca-Cola, including service as National Sales Manager for South Texas, and helped lead the Regional Transportation Authority’s conversion to natural gas.

Since his election to the City Council in 2018, Gil Hernandez has listened, learned, and worked across neighborhoods. He is running for Mayor to bring steady leadership, practical judgment, and accountable service to the whole city.

Our city agenda

What Gil will
fight for.

Priority one

Water security
that works now

Corpus Christi needs water that helps residents today and a resilient supply for tomorrow. Gil’s plan is a diversified approach that makes cost, timing, reliability, and protection of our bay part of every decision.

  • Act on near-term supply.Advance brackish-water treatment and well-field options that can strengthen supply sooner.
  • Build a balanced portfolio.Evaluate seawater desalination, reuse, conservation, groundwater, and brackish sources together, rather than betting the city on one proposal.
  • Show residents the full picture.Publish costs, timelines, alternatives, and environmental safeguards before major water commitments are made.

Care for the city we have

Preventative maintenance is a promise to taxpayers.

Gil believes Corpus Christi must take care of its assets with the same discipline families and local businesses bring to their own budgets. That means knowing what we own, budgeting for its useful life, and acting early instead of paying more after the fact.

It is why he has prioritized residential street repair, advocated for asset lifecycle management, and worked to make maintenance a core part of how the City plans, spends, and delivers.
